If you were just arrested
The first three days decide a lot. Here's what to do.
Fear of the unknown is usually worse than the reality. These three steps protect you while we sort out the rest.
- Right now
Stop talking to police.
You have the right to remain silent and the right to a lawyer. Use both. Be polite, give your name, and say you want to speak with an attorney before answering questions.
- Within 7 days of a DUI arrest
Protect your license.
The Department of Licensing can suspend your license before you ever see a judge. You have seven days from the citation to request a hearing. Here is how that works.
- Before your first court date

Your first appearance sets your release conditions and, in domestic violence cases, a no-contact order. Having a lawyer there changes the outcome. What happens at that hearing.
